I am tired. So tired of men answering questions for women. I hope many men read this and take it to heart. This includes many men I know, so if you know me, you are not above this, and this is actually for you! I am not a man hater. I am a man LOVER!!! I love men! All shapes sizes, hairy, bearded, bald, big, small, old and young! My dad was a man. My brother is a man. My Spouse is a man. I have worked in so many male dominated industries, the army, animation, podcasting… sometimes I even FEEL like a man!!!
But when it comes to talking about women, whenever I ask a simple question about women-(this can be anything with the word woman in it, I have come to find), for some reason men reply with “no, it’s not been my experience”.
NO, it’s not been my experience. Hmmmmmm OK. Let me tell you my experience.
I would like to talk with other women about breaking into male dominated careers, but that can’t even be a conversation if the very 1st part of it is saying there isn’t a lack of women in leadership roles, there isn’t any sexism, there isn’t any pay difference, and everything your saying is not the experience of men.
Well OF COURSE it’s not the experience of MEN!!! I’m talking about WOMEN!!!
I’m not complaining about the situation, I’m trying to find a solution!!! And the solution is education! Educating women that there are these jobs, and there is sexism, but that it is OK to be at the forefront, and that there are ways we can fight together and make these places better and more welcome to women. It’s not about us fitting in or becoming more man-like. It’s about learning how to deal with the confrontation you will receive that will be unlike any you will ever encounter, but that this is OK too because women are strong, so strong there is nothing they can’t do!
Now we women already know that-this rant is for men-You need to help us PROMOTE that we can do anything. You need to be our cheerleaders, our nurturers, our advocates. If you think the struggle for equality is over, it is not. Equality is good for everyone, men & women. Ignoring it or nay-saying women who try to discuss it is ignorant. If it’s ‘not your experience’ please just stay out of the conversation as you only marginalize people actually striving for change.
